How do authors draw from and transform source material in specific work?
Every author look for something to write, but there are some authors that take ideas from people or from traditions. Shirley Jackson is one of those authors that take ideas from bad traditions, making a satire. I think she have to work very hard, investigating about the theme she chose. She needed to search how bad traditions affect organisms (humans and animals), how traditions affect humanity and how people follow. She had to create a whole tradition and a incredible story, giving the reader a message.
In this world exist hundreds of traditions, like Thanksgiving, Christmas, Groundhog, and Independence Day. These are some beautiful traditions, where you have a time with your family and friends. But, just as there are good and beautiful traditions, there are also bad traditions. Writers, artist, people are trying that the world realize there are bad traditions that they don´t have to follow. The Lottery is a story that tells a horrible fiction tradition that people only follow but they don´t really realize that they can kill people with that tradition. The Simpsons also create a satire of this, creating a bad tradition called The Wracking Day, where people kill snakes, this have the same purpose of The Lottery, show people that you don´t have to follow bad traditions that affect human or animals.
